Former Judge Carol Wardell in Need of Kidney Transplant

The Living Kidney Donors Network, a non-profit organization that helps those who need a kidney transplant has been a valuable resource for me. Their Facebook page posted a story about a judge who is in need of a kidney transplant. What was interesting about the story is that a friend of the judge wrote about the judge’s need. Here’s the link if you want to read the story. http://kpq.com/5113-2/ Would you be willing to write a story about my situation? You could post it on your page or send it into the local newspaper or you might know of another outlet where it could be printed.

I can truly relate to Judge Carol Wardell's situation:

  • We both were diagnosed with a genetic kidney disorder (IgA Nephropathy) years ago

  • At Stage 5 ("end stage") of chronic kidney failure, with a TOTAL function of about 10% and that function will continue to decline

  • Listed on a regional list to receive a kidney from a deceased donor. But, all recipient's best hope for surviving surgery and living a better life is if I receive a kidney from a living donor. Transplant surgeries with living donors are planned and scheduled; whereas, a deceased donor requires emergency surgery. And, time is critical for transplants - we live in 2+ hour drive to our transplant hospitals.

  • We both believe that a decision to donate an organ – whether while alive or after death – is very personal and is based on a number of reasons. A living donation is major surgery. Your medical history and emotional well-being are important factors. Being a living donor is not a simple decision and is not a “test” of love or friendship.

  • We both have the same story other than different blood type & location. PLEASE help her by becoming her donor.

I have had a few potential donors wishing to help me but location was a problem. So, I give a "Shout Out" to those Altruistic people that wanted to help me & be a donor. Thank you so much.

As always if you're interested in helping in other ways please click on my "Ways To Help" page of my website. I have tons of things listed of ways you can contribute if you can't donate a kidney.

I am very grateful for the continued support I’m receiving from family members and friends and will continue to keep you up to date on my progress.

Can you suggest another way to let others know about my need? Please share it with us and we will include in in a future Tuesdays With Debbie updates.

Until next week, we wish you the best in your journey.
